Funk Sessions DJ collective announce playlist for fourth show.
'The Funk Sessions' fourth show was originally aired on Tuesday the 30th of March 2021, listen on the Mixcloud player below. Scientific Sound radio is an underground station for the Asian region and internationally.
Since 2019 the Funk Sessions crew have been igniting dance floors across Ho Chi Minh City with their unique party vibes dedicated to all things funky. This DJ and party crew bring you the funkiest beats around, from funk classics & old-skool hip hop, to disco, party breaks, ghetto funk and more.
A group of international DJs from Australia and UK, based primarily in Vietnam, on a mission to add a little spice to the dance music scene. With a vast back catalogue of experiences behind them, including club nights, free parties and festivals and having supported many heavyweights of the underground music world.
The style of music they play is heavily influenced by the pioneers of breakbeat. It’s particularly obvious in the Hip Hop, Funky Breaks and Ghetto Funk they play, but it's influence actually runs a lot deeper and to some extent can be heard throughout all of their mixes.
Funk Sessions have regular events in Ho Chi Minh City at Broma (not a bar), TNR (your favourite dive bar), Indika and Apt852. Other venues past and present include, Secret weekend, Tempo, Arcan, Haus, Banana Mama, Piu Piu, Sky 9, Rogue Saigon, Soma and Saigon Outcast.This week on the Funk Sessions radio show it's a funky reggae party. Special guest Matty C is joining Funk Sessions residents Yushka and Robson Jr.
First up is Robson Jr. bursting onto the scene in 2020, with residencies at Funk Dem Beats (TNR) and Funk Sessions at Broma, and also exciting crowds at Haus, Arcan and more. She has a great eclectic style pulling tunes from a range of genres to build a funky tropical world sound that makes your hips move, feet stomp and your shoulders sway. This week we have a hand picked selection of her favourite funk and soul classics.
Next up with some Dub and Reggae is Matty C, since arriving in Vietnam in 2014 he has been involved in and in love with the new international Reggae music scene. He spent over 5 years putting on weekly reggae events and built up the collective that is Hanoi Hifi. Now residing in in Ho Chi Minh City playing all sub-genres from Rocksteady to Digital. Together with an eclectic mix of sirens, horns and sound effect’s he brings the best of Reggae to the city and further afield. This special edition 30 minute promo mix brings a unique selection of Dub from across the ages.
The last part of the mix is brought to you by Funk Sessions resident DJ Yushka hailing from Nottingham in the UK, he has been dropping beats at free parties, raves, festivals and club nights, around the UK, Ireland and more recently Vietnam since the mid 2000s. He has been a supporting act for Drum and Bass legends EZ Rollers and Kenny Ken and played in many venues in Vietnam. Anticipate anything, chilled laid back beats, Breaks, Hip Hop, Electro, all with a hint of Funk and Soul. Now a resident at Funk Sessions, Boombox and Funk Dem Beats expect to see a lot more of him in and around Asia in 2021. This week he brings us a diverse mix of, laid back breaks, Nu Soul, world beats, up tempo hip hop and reggae influenced breaks.
