DJ Ruby.
This weeks guest mix (second hour) is DJ Ruby. By a clear mile, DJ Ruby is the most prolific underground dance music artist that loomed from the party island of Malta, amassing a huge fan base that follows him unconditionally, as well as an insatiable buzz throughout the dance music business. Considered a true pioneer of his calibre, a hard-working and modest person that has always matured with the scene. He now boasts over 20 years of experience that has obtained him countless achievements and acclaim, which are impossible to mention all in a few lines.
DJ Ruby is responsible for being a major force in starting and shaping Malta’s elite dance music scene into what it is today. For many years, he hosted countless events under the Pure Promotions imprint, setting trends for various clubbing concepts on the island and introducing multiple generations to electronic dance music.
A career that started in the early 90’s and is still going strong to date, saw DJ Ruby being featured at Malta’s most notable dance events, opening for many of the world’s legendary names such as Faithless, The Prodigy, Sasha, John Digweed, Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold, Hernan Cattaneo, Sven Vath, Nick Warren, Steve Lawler and Dave Seaman, as well as holding residencies at a vast array of influential institutions in the country including with the globally acclaimed label; Renaissance.
Throughout the years, DJ Ruby’s diary has formed to be more like an atlas. He has performed all over the world; India, Ibiza, Russia, Germany, Jordan, Netherlands, Thailand, Australia, Italy, Dubai, USA, Hong Kong, just to name a very few. These gigs all over the globe were also topped off by being on the line-up of notorious festivals such as Timewarp, Ozora, Transmission, Creamfields and Tomorrowland Unite.
As a music producer he holds a vast discography of own productions, remixes and 2 albums, with many tracks supported from the planet’s leading DJs and also making it into charts of digital outlets such as Beatport and Traxsource. After a very long break from the studio to dedicate more time to DJ’ing and running own events, recently he decided that is time to go back on the hot seat and recommence work on music production.
After alternating between the mainstream and underground scenes for many years, since 2018, DJ Ruby has found a firm place in the progressive house stage. He’s already making a name for himself worldwide. His regular live sets recordings and Progcast show are hugely followed online and tend to go viral, receiving constant good feedback from several leading artists in this genre. In a very short period of time he managed to make progressive house bloom again in Malta, mostly thanks to his DJ Ruby Secret Series and Ruby & Friends parties, which already featured respected players such as Guy J, Cid Inc, Stereo Underground, Jeremy Olander, Golan Zocher & Emi Galvan.
When not in the studio or upholding his own events in Malta, DJ Ruby can be found jaunting mostly between Russia and Asia delivering journeys with his music. Being also a skilful video editor, expect to see self-produced visuals showcased creatively in conjunction with his music at many of his upcoming and current shows.
